Hone and Harness Your Habits: Ten, Spring Forward Strategies to Keep Your Professional & Personal Energy Elevated~
Your actions always speak louder than your words. If these are not aligned, you will drain energy like a leaky faucet. Pay attention to your actions.
Preach what you practice. This means developing a willingness to share and teach your mistakes, your lessons and your wins. Don’t just teach your successes; teach your challenges and your failures. This creates better holistic balance of how we understand and treat both accomplishments and setbacks.
Finish what you start before diving into something else and let your brain absorb what you learned so that you can apply it accordingly.
Ask yourself: “Is this absolutely the best and most necessary use of my energy and focus right now?” If the answer is no, or if the answer is unclear, take a pause and remove it from your plate until you can re-evaluate.
Remember that social media is in fact, NOT SOCIAL. Get off your digital train track and engage with others in reality, whenever possible, and in a way that feeds your positive growth.
You are not a “brand”. You are a human. If more of us worked on our compassion towards self, others and the planet, the world would be less transactional.
Energy of the body, mind and spirit is not unlimited. It requires disposal of the bad and renewal of the good. Your self-care mechanisms should not be tasks you assign to one day of the week, like chores. They should be infused in every aspect of your routine.
The most underrated daily tool for regeneration is REAL sleep. To optimize better restoration, remove screens from your nightly rituals. Reading on a screen/smartphone reduces natural melatonin hormone production by 50%, which wreaks long term havoc on your sleep health, and results in insomnia and other REM disruption. If your professional life does not bring you more joy than NOT JOY, make an exit-strategy plan and find something that better matches and enhances your existence and purpose.
Although YOU are not your “job”, your happiness factor at work is essential to your energy protection. Are you being proactive about reminding yourself what you need from a career to help you thrive as a human? Start writing that down and keep track of what this insight is telling you.
Bonus Habit Challenge: Teaching others what we know offers myriad ways to refuel creative, professional energy. We all have SOMETHING we understand well enough to teach. Do you believe this? What is your gift and how can you teach that to others as a simple means of re-inspiring and re-purposing that which you have mastered? And how can you do this in a way that restores your beautiful energy?
Happy Spring!
